Joel Siméus You know that one dope concept song on an album full of gangster rap from the 1990s? This is like a whole album made out those kinds of tracks. Boom bap hiphop without misogyny and glorification of violence. Art rap with neither pretentiously over-produced ambient inspired beats nor shitty sounding cassette demo beats. Just raw, nice sounding music. There is also a heavy jazzy feel over the album making me think of Pete Rock, Sound Providers and Five Deez. All in all just what the doctor ordered Favorite track: Fuck Off Fly.

Arsenal Malfunction This album is so well crafted and wonderful. Favorite track: Cat Loves Catnip.

This album came together between March-June 2020. Me and Smokey131 (Germany) have been friends for many years and have been meaning to work together for a long time.

This album came together quite quickly and the process was a very easy and natural one.

"What can I say about Weightlifters? First off the production is basically flawless for the content and style that Thorts is employing on this album. Old school and dope, melodic and hard, part Dj Muggs part Dj Abilities. sMoKeY makes use of a combination of sound effects, dusty jazz and surprisingly beautiful strings to create a sense of depth and darkness with a humility that allows Thorts to benefit from, but not have to battle over, his music. "Meat & Bones" in particular, a song that picks apart the superficial differences between people and identifies our commonalities is stirring, gorgeous and emotional without being preachy or self indulgent. The rest of the album surfs between this sound and a darker a-melodic style (this is where the Muggs comparison originates) but it is all professional, smart and original. The album wraps up with a beautiful string sample based instrumental track "Black Swans (Reprise)" that leaves the listener feeling as if they've awoken from an unsettling but ultimately hopeful dream. Given the darkness of the rest of the songs, the album closer is sorely needed and really caps Weightlifters nicely." - Dimxsk.

We have 2 dope features on Myself When Young from Variex (California) & Staplemouth (Hawaii via Lawrence, Kansas) and additional vocals from my 2 daughters on Cat Loves Catnip and Pages.
